Client Case Study:
Telecom Expenses Out of Control
Neil Jones Food Company was founded in 1915 and is headquartered in Vancouver, Washington. The company processes traditional and organic tomatoes, custom sauce blends, Northwest fruits, cranberry sauces, and juice concentrates for customers around the world. During the off-season, Neil Jones employs around 500 to 700 people, but during the busy packing season employment swells to more than 2,700 people.
Telecommunications are critical for any company, but it is an expense that can get out of control very quickly. It is something you have to stay on top of constantly. There are several things that make telecommunication expenses hard to control. “The first thing is that almost everyone is being overbilled for his or her services, and the second thing is that internally everyone hates to track phone bills. Nobody really understands how phone companies work,” says Alain. “The bills are so confusing and hard to understand that it can be very expensive and a waste of time to track them internally.”
Alain Godbout is the Director of Information Systems for Neil Jones Food Company and has been with the company for more than 7 years. He is responsible for making sure that the company is up and running 24 hours per day and 7 days per week without interruption, installing upgrades to systems, and finding more ways to integrate automated systems.
Researching and paying telecom bills is very time consuming if you try to do it internally. “Ruby+Solberg has saved us countless hours that would have been spent in billing research. I estimate that without Ruby+Solberg, I would have to hire at least half of a full time employee to do billing research, and accounting would have to do the same just to handle the posting and paying of the bills. The monthly statement review of all my phone bills is the major tool that I use to control my cost.
“The savings we have encountered by using Ruby+Solberg has been fantastic. Just recently, I was able to change the contract with my cell phone provider and it saved me another 30% to 40%.” If I were to have one thing to say to another company that is thinking about using Ruby+Solberg to help control their telecommunications expenses, it would be, go for it!”
When Alain first came to Neil Jones Food Company seven years ago, he asked Ruby+Solberg to look into his telecommunication bills. “On the first snapshot look at our bills, Ruby+Solberg was able to save us about 30% of what we were spending,” says Alain. “On a monthly basis, Ruby+Solberg has continued to review our bills, and almost on a monthly basis, they find overbilling expenses, fees, or errors that save us money. The savings that they find for us helps us tremendously. They keep our expenses under control.“
